The shareholders of the African Export-Import Bank (Afreximbank) have appointed Dr George Elombi as the bank’s next president and chairman of the board, succeeding Benedict Oramah, who steps down in September 2025 after a decade in the role.
A Cameroonian national, Elombi joined Afreximbank in 1996 as a legal officer and has since held several senior roles. Before that, he taught law at the University of Hull in the UK.
In an acceptance speech following his appointment, Elombi said he would continue efforts to position Afreximbank as a driver of African industrialisation. He endorsed the bank’s ambition, set by his predecessor, to grow into a $250 billion institution within ten years.
