DEG invests $8m in African tower company
German development financier DEG has invested $8 million in Africa Mobile Networks (AMN) to support and fund a tower roll-out plan in rural areas of sub-Saharan Africa.
Founded in 2013, AMN is a UK-registered company that builds, owns and operates mobile network base stations throughout rural Africa. AMN’s “network-as-a-service” model allows Africa’s tier-1 mobile network operators to expand their network coverage deep into rural areas. AMN uses highly-advanced technology to enable services to be delivered economically and sustainably to smaller communities than has ever been possible before.
Currently the company operates more than 1,600 base stations in eight sub-Saharan Africa countries with a growth plan to roll out into a further 11 countries.
