1. South Africa: Sanlam Private Equity buys stake in education business
Sanlam Private Equity, through its SPE Mid Market Fund I, finalised the acquisition of a significant stake in Boston City Campus, one of South Africa’s leading distance learning institutions in higher education.
Boston currently operates 47 support centres across South Africa, offering ICT infrastructure, student registration and support, even in areas where access to traditional brick-and-mortar institutions is limited or unavailable. Read the full article
2. Africa Capitalworks announces education deal
Africa Capitalworks invested in Enko Education. Founded in 2013, Enko Education is a platform of K-12 (primary and secondary) schools. The investment supports Enko Education’s ambition to execute a large-scale buy-and-build strategy to consolidate the private K-12 market in Africa. Read the full article
3. TLG Capital invests in Kenya’s Ark Group
TLG Capital, a private credit fund focused on investing in sub-Saharan Africa, partnered with the Development Bank of Kenya to close a $6.5 million investment into Kenya-based Ark Junior School and Playstreet Kindergarten, collectively known as the Ark Group. Ark currently operates two schools in Nairobi and one in Kitengela, serving over 850 students. Read the full article
4. Proparco and Admaius Capital Partners back medical school in Senegal
French development finance institution Proparco partnered with Admaius Capital Partners to support Senegal’s Saint Christopher Iba Mar Diop Medical School.
Established in Dakar in 2003, Saint Christopher has grown into one of the largest private medical training institutions in francophone Africa, with over 2,000 students currently enrolled in medicine, pharmacy, and dentistry programmes. Read the full article
5. Old Mutual Private Equity buys stake in Honoris; Actis exits
Old Mutual Private Equity, a unit of Old Mutual Alternative Investments, agreed to acquire a majority stake in Honoris United Universities, the pan-African private higher education group. The deal sees Actis exit its investment in the company. Read the full article
