1.Amethis backs North African logistics deal
Morocco-based express courier company Globex, part of private equity firm Amethis’s portfolio, acquired 100% of Logic Transport, a prominent player in Morocco’s transport and logistics sector.
This strategic acquisition, for which Amethis participated in the financing, represents a significant step for Globex, marking its expansion and growth in the road transport and transit segment. It will enable Globex to broaden its range of services and optimise its operations, in particular by capitalising on the experience of the Andreani family, founders of Logic Transport. 2. South Africa: Creation Capital closes funding for Quest Capital Solutions
Creation Capital, a South African-based private credit asset manager, closed a R75 million (about $4.2 million) debt investment into Quest Capital Solutions.
Founded in 2012, Quest Capital Solutions provides financing, asset management, servicing and maintenance, as well as insurance for rent-to-own trucks and trailers in the SME sector. Read the full article
3. Global Innovation Fund invests in Kenya’s Keep It Cool
The Global Innovation Fund invested in Keep It Cool (KIC), a Nairobi-based start-up transforming supply chains with its smart distribution platform, Markiti. KIC provides refrigeration and logistics solutions to fisherfolk and smallholder farmers in Kenya and Uganda.
Food loss is a significant challenge in many markets in Africa. With inadequate cold storage and transport systems in place, fisherfolk on the Kenyan side of Lake Victoria are losing up to half of their catch every day. Read the full article
4. South Africa’s Clearwater Capital secures cold-chain logistics acquisition
South African private equity fund manager Clearwater Capital announced the purchase of Etlin International’s temperature-controlled storage and logistics arm through a business rescue deal. This division, SnoLink Logistics, will continue to serve its existing customer base, which includes several blue chip retailers.
“This acquisition reflects South Africa’s evolving supply chain, offering a reliable and trustworthy route to market,” commented Clearwater Capital executive chairman, Harish Mehta. “Clearwater has had an interest in this sector for several years – this acquisition was a strategic one. Furthermore, it creates new opportunities for importers of temperature-sensitive products, like ice cream and mechanically deboned meat, to access the South African market with greater confidence.” Read the full article
5. Nairobi-based logistics platform raises $5m, led by Speedinvest
Leta, a Nairobi-based company that has built a supply chain and logistics operating system, raised $5 million in seed funding, led by Speedinvest with participation from Google’s Africa Investment Fund and Equator.
Founded by Nick Joshi, Kip Maritim and Anthony Ketter, Leta optimises delivery routes, provides real-time tracking, and cuts transport costs for businesses in Africa. Read the full article
