The Ghana Venture Capital and Private Equity Association (GVCA) launched the 4th edition of its annual conference, taking place from April 24th - 25th, 2025, at the Kempinski Hotel Gold Coast City in Accra. This landmark event is poised to unlock local institutional investor capital and position Ghana as a hub for Africa’s venture capital and private equity investment industry by fostering transformative policy reforms, strategic partnerships, and actionable solutions that will drive Ghana’s national development through growth-stage startup and mid-sized business financing.
Under the theme, “Domestic Capital Mobilization in an Evolving Investment Landscape,” the conference will address one of the most pressing challenges and opportunities facing African economies today: how to unlock local pools of capital to drive growth, resilience, and self-reliance. With global capital markets, investors and donors becoming more cautious amid geopolitical tensions, inflationary pressures, and shrinking development finance, there has never been a more critical time to harness Ghana’s domestic financial resources. The conference will serve as a clarion call to investors, policymakers, regulators, and thought leaders to explore Ghana’s SME growth financing potential and alternative asset allocations by institutional investors, with diversification of assets under management being especially important after recent losses incurred on the bond markets.
Following the success of last year’s conference, which attracted over 350 industry leaders, this year's event convenes senior government officials, private equity and venture capital leaders, policymakers, development finance institutions (DFIs), multilateral organisations, corporate trustees, investment bankers, and venture capital-backed entrepreneurs.
The conference will feature a high-level speaker lineup including: Chief Alhassan Andani former CEO of Stanbic Bank Ghana; Dr. Sangu Delle – Board Chair of Ashesi University; Bright Simons – mPedigree; Dr James Avedzi – Securities and Exchange Commission (SEC); Andrew Takyi-Appiah – Zeepay; Simon Madjie – GIPC; Matthew Boadi Adjei – Oasis Capital; Hamdiya Ismaila – Savannah Impact Advisory; Jerry Parkes – Injaro Investments; Michael Abbey, Percival Ampomah – Venture Capital Trust Fund (VCTF); Sam Yeboah – Mirepa Investment Advisors; Kwabena Boamah – Stanbic Investment Management (SIMS); NanaAma Dowuona – N.Dowuona & Co.; and Barbara Ghansah – Zinari Capital.
Senior practitioners from the industry can look forward to dynamic conversations, practical data and insights from African investors, experienced and emerging fund managers, as well as regulators and legal experts on the reforms shaping the private equity and venture capital landscape. There will be deal-flow opportunities to match high-potential venture capital and private equity investment targets with Limited Partners (LPs), and General Partners (GPs) looking to connect, understand investor expectations, and strengthen strategic partnerships. High-level policy dialogues will also take place through interactive policy panels, designed to bridge the gap between local capital needs and regulatory infrastructure.
Speaking on the relevance and value of the industry body and conference, the new CEO of GVCA, Amma Gyampo commented at a recent policy dialogue: “We are working with our stakeholders to showcase strategic opportunities to move the industry forward in ways that create an enabling environment that can unlock local private capital, and continue to build up both local and international investor confidence in the asset class required to drive Ghana’s economy forward in a more diversified manner. GVCA’s key messages are diversification and lowering the barriers holding back domestic capital mobilisation for job creation and economic development. Capital markets and over-reliance on debt have contributed to our current woes; as such, enabling a globally competitive private equity industry makes sense.”
The GVCA Annual Conference 2025 is the flagship industry event for GVCA members, corporate trustees, pension funds, insurance firms, investment banks, fund managers, policymakers, regulators, and ecosystem players committed to positioning Ghana as a Venture Capital and Private Equity industry hub, shaping the future of Africa’s private capital markets.
The GVCA conference in Accra takes place on 24-25th April – open to GVCA Members and established industry stakeholders – and strategically precedes the Africa Venture Capital and Private Equity Association (AVCA) Conference, taking place in Lagos, Nigeria on 28th April, creating a pivotal week for private equity and venture capital dialogue across the West Africa Region.
