Ecosia, a not-for-profit search engine that plants and protects trees, has made an investment into the Asc Impact forestry fund.
The fund focuses on sustainable forest management and timber production in sub-Saharan Africa. It allows qualified investors to back the planting of trees and achieve a return of over 20% annually.
"Our family has been managing the land sustainably for over 300 years, and we will continue to do so for the next 300 years," said Karl Kirchmayer, managing partner at Asc Impact. "We are not a traditional fund; our own teams work on-site to keep our promises to our investors."
"Our partnership with Asc provides us with a unique opportunity to multiply the number of trees we can plant. We expect to see returns from this financing in the next ten years, and we will be able to reinvest this into planting many more trees with the same amount of money, adding circularity to our resources. This is an exciting new outlet for us, and we look forward to expanding our work in this area. We hope for many imitators," commented Mathias Schmidt, agroforestry investments specialist for Ecosia.
