Helios and Japan's Sojitz sign MoU
Japanese trading house Sojitz Corporation and Helios Investment Partners signed a memorandum of understanding (MoU) to collaborate on a wide range of projects across sectors in Africa.
Helios is an Africa-focused private investment firm that has invested more than $3 billion in over 30 countries in Africa. Sojitz and Helios entered into a partnership through Sojitz’s first significant equity investment in Africa earlier this year. Sojitz acquired a 25% stake in the holding company of Axxela, the largest private sector gas distributor in Nigeria owned by Helios, via an intermediate holding company in the Netherlands on March 30, 2022.
Sojitz will collaborate with Helios under this memorandum to expand businesses in Nigeria, as well as in other countries in Africa, with the aim of contributing to sustainable development in the region.
Through this memorandum, Sojitz and Helios aim to pursue synergies across a diverse range of industries including energy (gas, electricity, and clean energies such as hydrogen and ammonia), IT (including telecommunication towers), healthcare (hospitals, medical devices, and digital transformation-related businesses), and social infrastructure (including industrial park businesses).
