ICRA Rating rises as a trusted African credit rating agency
Recognised by regulators in Zimbabwe, Zambia, Uganda and Tanzania, ICRA Rating is among Africa’s most widely licensed agencies.

Across Africa, the African Credit Rating Agency (AfCRA), backed by the African Peer Review Mechanism (APRM), is driving a continental narrative on the importance of homegrown credit rating institutions. In parallel, several local agencies are expanding their presence, with ICRA Rating emerging as one of the most prominent players.
ICRA Rating has established a strong foundation in Zimbabwe, where it is accredited by the Reserve Bank of Zimbabwe (the central bank). Beyond Zimbabwe, the agency has also secured regulatory recognition in multiple jurisdictions, including licensing from the Securities and Exchange Commission in Zambia, the Capital Markets Authority in Uganda, and the Capital Markets and Securities Authority in Tanzania.
With these accreditations, ICRA Rating stands out as one of the most widely licensed credit rating agencies in Africa, positioning itself as a key player in deepening local capital markets and enhancing regional financial credibility.
"Our journey has been truly special. We are proud to offer our services across all African markets where credit rating solutions are needed, backed by the licences and regulatory approvals we’ve earned in key jurisdictions and sectors. Though young, we are among the fastest-growing credit rating agencies in terms of recognition. This progress reinforces our vision: to become the most credible and trusted credit rating agency for African markets – a vision that continues to become a reality every day.
"We are deeply grateful to all our clients and partners for their trust and support. It is our honour to serve you. As we look ahead, we are committed to adding more accolades to our name and expanding our reach – ensuring that institutions, corporates, and SMEs across Africa have access to our credible credit rating services," said ICRA Zimbabwe CEO, Ephraim Chawoneka.
