Kenyan skincare company raises seed funding
Kenyan skincare products company Uncover has raised $1 million in its latest seed round of funding, with investors including FirstCheck Africa, Samata Capital, Future Africa, and IgniteXL, as well as several angel investors.
Uncover is a digital-first brand that produces skincare products specifically for women of colour on the African continent. The company uses African botanicals and global technology from Korea, to create safe, nourishing, and effective products for women in Africa.
In addition to its products, Uncover provides skincare knowledge to its customers through its content platform, personalised skin quiz, and tele skin consultations. The company’s goal is to empower women to take care of themselves and feel confident.
Since its launch two years ago, Uncover has grown its monthly revenue by 20 times, and has developed a loyal customer base of almost 60,000 women.
”We are so proud of this important milestone in our journey and couldn’t be more excited to have our new investors as partners. The rapid traction we’ve seen in 24 months since launch is testament to the need for healthy, safe and affordable women’s health products specifically made for women of colour combined with digitally enabled customer education and product discovery tools,” says Sneha Mehta, Uncover co-founder and CEO.
”Uncover’s products are an innovative blend of Korean skincare technology and African ingredients, and the founders are leveraging data and community to build a category leader with global potential. Since we invested, the company’s growth has been incredible, and the team is already working on its third country entry. FirstCheck Africa is thrilled to have been one of Uncover’s earliest backers,” says Eloho Omame, co-founder and general partner, FirstCheck Africa.
