Técnicas Sanjorge (TSJ), the lead company of the agricultural products and services platform backed by Africa-focused private equity firm Mediterrania Capital Partners (MCP), has completed the acquisition of 100% of AgroProtectors. AgroProtectors specialises in turnkey solutions that provide physical protection and support for crops in a sustainable manner.
The transaction coincides with the launch of Grovium, the new group brand and identity that brings together the companies added since 2023.
Based in Barcelona, Spain, AgroProtectors markets nets and products for crop protection and support. These include anti-bird, anti-insect and anti-hail nets for crops such as table grapes and berries; trellising and shade nets for fruit orchards and vineyards; individual tree guards for forestry plantations and landscaping; and stakes and posts for organic farming. Over the past five years, the company has built a commercial network with customers in 21 countries across four continents.
AgroProtectors is the fifth acquisition in the project launched by MCP in July 2023 with its investment in TSJ. Founded in Huelva in 2000, TSJ specialises in the manufacture of greenhouses, hydroponic growing systems, irrigation and agricultural supplies. With TSJ as the platform’s lead company, in 2024 the group added two companies engaged in the production and sale of agricultural substrates and coconut fibre, which operate under the Coflor brand. This was followed by Requasur Levante (RQA), which specialises in installing irrigation systems, water projects for agriculture and the sale of irrigation equipment.
The integration of TSJ, Coflor, RQA and AgroProtectors has led to the creation of Grovium, an umbrella brand that brings the four businesses together while allowing each to retain its existing trade name.
Africa now accounts for 63% of the group’s international sales, which have tripled on the continent since MCP’s investment.
Daniel Viñas, senior partner at MCP, said: “When we invested in Técnicas Sanjorge, we saw the opportunity to build, from a company with a great team and a unique model, a group with the scale needed to compete and become an innovative and sustainable international leader. In three years, we have doubled its size and multiplied its presence abroad, especially in Africa, where our local network has allowed us to open doors and support the team on the ground. We are convinced this model is replicable: many Spanish and Southern European SMEs that lead their niche can scale up by combining inorganic growth and internationalisation, and we want to keep supporting them on that journey.”
