Nigeria's Platform Capital commits to Latin America-based venture capital fund
Nigeria-based investment firm Platform Capital has announced a commitment to the View Accelerator fund. View Accelerator is actively investing in technology startups disrupting Latin America’s real estate segment. As part of this commitment, Dr. Akintoye Akindele, chairman of Platform Capital, joins the fund’s investment committee and advisory board.
View Accelerator is the first corporate accelerator in Latin America focused on tech innovations applied to real estate (proptech). View Accelerator was launched and seeded by Tierra y Armonía and Grupo Guía, leading construction and real estate firms in the region as well as BlueBox, a leading corporate venture firm. The fund has backed some technology startups in Mexico, Chile, Colombia and Peru, that are focused on virtual reality for construction and project management; brokerage and investments; payments; and building administration such as Homie, Wimet, Briq, Comunidad Feliz, Outernets, LQN, and Descifra. View Accelerator provides knowledge, support, tools, access, and financing to the start-ups it backs.
Alejandro Cortes Meza, CIO at BlueBox, said, “Since we started the conversation with Platform Capital, we have seen great value in this partnership for all parties – startups, investors, corporations, and partners. Combining both our strengths and knowledge, we can definitely create an amazing ecosystem. Our commitment to Platform and our partners is a vision we have continued to strengthen with bridges in all continents; this alliance will help others join us. Let’s grow and expand this network together.”
Paul Okunaiya, chief investment officer at Platform Capital, said, “Platform’s commitment to View Accelerator provides access to highly disruptive startups in an industry that has traditionally seen minimal technological innovation. Latin America and Africa are similar in many aspects; however, we see significant opportunity for Africa to learn from Latin America’s developed tech ecosystem. Our commitment not only reiterates our belief in the catalytic nature of technology to revolutionise entire value chains across industries globally; it also uniquely positions Platform Capital to bring new technologies to Africa that will help unlock the massive opportunities in the real estate sector and its value chain on the continent. In addition, this expands our presence in Latin America and provides an opportunity for View Accelerator’s portfolio companies to expand into Africa with Platform Capital as a trusted partner.”
