OPES-LCEF Impact Fund in Zambian energy deal
WidEnergy Africa has secured funding from OPES-LCEF. Based in Zambia, WidEnergy was one of two African companies to receive funding through OPES-LCEF’s Restart East Africa vehicle to address female underrepresentation in the renewable energy sector. WidEnergy works with predominantly women sales agents, bringing access to affordable energy and jobs for women to rural Africa.
The OPES-LCEF Impact Fund has a portfolio of 17 investment distributed across 11 countries that targets early-stage investments into companies improving lives at the bottom of the pyramid. The fund invested in WidEnergy Africa and Rwanda’s Munymax.
WidEnergy will use the funding to continue extending the reach of its rural distribution network.
