Rafiq Suleman joins Verdant Capital as vice president
Rafiq Suleman has joined Verdant Capital Limited as vice president, based in Kampala, Uganda. Suleman has eight years of senior management and corporate finance experience across financial advisory, investment management, and microfinance.
Suleman began his career in investment banking with Lazard, a global financial services firm with offices across 26 countries, in Toronto, Canada, supporting clients across a broad range of industries on mergers & acquisitions, capital structure advisory, and restructuring.
Suleman previously worked as the CFO of Watu Credit Uganda, a non-deposit-taking asset finance company, as one of the first team members in Uganda, helping the Ugandan subsidiary grow exponentially over a 40-month period. Over the period, the entity grew from one to 18 branches, with a loan portfolio of over $50 million supporting more than 57,000 active clients.
Suleman has also worked in investment management, as the lead investment officer in sub-Saharan Africa for an American family office, supporting its emerging markets investment portfolio.
