Standard Bank, in its capacity as mandated lead arranger and facility agent, has delivered a €456 million financing solution for Genser Energy Investments, supporting its next phase of investment in strategic energy infrastructure across West Africa.
Founded in 2006, Genser is a privately owned integrated energy solutions and infrastructure company focused on supporting industrial growth and energy security across West Africa. The company has installed generation capacity of more than 334MW and owns and operates a 436-kilometre privately developed natural gas pipeline network across Ghana. Genser supplies power to industrial clients and utilities in Ghana, participates in cross-border power exports to Côte d’Ivoire, and continues to expand its energy infrastructure platform across the region.
Standard Bank acted as mandated lead arranger, lender and facility agent on the financing solution designed to enable Genser to complete key EPC works and provide additional financial flexibility to support its strategic priorities and continued growth. The bank also managed the FX flows required for implementation, reflecting its role as a leading banking partner to Genser.
The financing builds on Standard Bank’s longstanding partnership with Genser, following its support for Genser Energy Ghana’s $428 million corporate refinancing and Genser Energy Côte d’Ivoire SA’s €200 million equipment loan facility, both completed in 2025. Having acted as lender and facility agent on those facilities, and now as mandated lead arranger, lender and facility agent on the €456 million financing, Standard Bank continues to demonstrate its commitment to supporting Genser’s growth strategy at a pivotal stage in the company’s evolution.
“Genser is well positioned to play a catalytic role in Ghana’s and West Africa’s energy transition. We are proud to have partnered with Genser on this transformative journey, which represents a strategic inflection point in the company’s growth trajectory. This transaction not only strengthens Genser’s platform for long-term sustainable growth but also reinforces its position as a leading participant in the region’s evolving energy landscape, enabling the company to remain at the forefront of the energy transition for years to come,” said Tyson Sithole, Executive Head: Equity Finance, Structured Capital at Standard Bank.
Through its partnership with Genser, Standard Bank developed a financing solution aligned with the company’s evolving strategic and capital requirements. Despite the compressed execution timeline, Standard Bank was able to structure and deliver a suitable funding package by drawing on its structuring, credit, legal, technical, environmental and advisory capabilities, while leveraging its deep client, sector and country insights.
“Standard Bank has supported Genser through several important stages of our growth. Their ability to combine global financing expertise with a deep understanding of the nuances of African markets has been invaluable. As we enter our next phase of growth, this financing gives us greater flexibility to complete projects underway and continue investing in critical energy infrastructure across West Africa,” commented Baafour Asiamah-Adjei, Founder and Chief Executive Officer of Genser Energy.
The transaction underscores Standard Bank’s commitment to supporting African businesses that are developing strategic infrastructure, improving energy reliability, enabling industrial growth and advancing regional energy integration across West Africa. It also reflects the alignment between Genser’s long-term growth strategy and Standard Bank’s purpose of driving sustainable economic development across the continent.
“We are proud to have played a meaningful role in enabling the next phase of Genser’s growth, through a holistic, solution-oriented investment banking package. This transaction reflects the strength of our partnership with the Genser team and our ability to structure and execute bespoke financing solutions for clients. Genser is an important player in advancing reliable energy supply and industrial growth in West Africa, and we are excited to continue supporting its long-term ambitions,” added Kagiso Rantloane, Deal Lead, Structured Capital at Standard Bank.
