4. Biochar Industrial Group raises $1.5m pre-seed round
Biochar Industrial Group, a climate technology enterprise focused on industrial-scale carbon removal across sub-Saharan Africa, has raised $1.5 million in pre-seed capital. BREEGA led the round, with participation from The Catalyst Fund and non-dilutive support from the Mulago Foundation. The company converts agricultural waste from food processors into biochar through pyrolysis, generating both soil amendments that restore degraded farmland and verifiable carbon removal credits. 3IF Ventures has made its first investment from its Inclusive Insurance Investment Fund, backing Turaco, an embedded micro-insurance platform operating across six African markets and Pakistan.
